Broughton and the border
Broughton lies at the eastern edge of Flintshire, close to the Cheshire boundary, with the aircraft factory, the retail park and Bretton, Saltney and Hawarden all within a short distance. It is one of the busiest corners of the county, on the Chester side of Deeside.
Modern jewellery and white gold
A large share of jewellery bought in the past twenty years is white gold, almost always rhodium plated to give it a bright, cool finish. Plating wears through in a few years and the warmer tone of the underlying alloy shows at the edges of a ring or along a bracelet.

Retail price and resale value are different things
The price paid in a shop includes design, branding, retail margin, VAT and often a stone. A metal valuation covers the gold content only. That gap surprises people, and it is better said plainly than discovered at the counter. Where a piece has genuine design or maker value, it is usually worth more sold intact than melted — which is precisely why items are identified before being treated as scrap.
Stone-set pieces
Stones are assessed separately and are not included in fine gold weight, and neither are base metal fittings. Anything with a diamond of real size is identified rather than scrapped with the mount.
