What you should expect throughout

- Standards kept separate rather than weighed as one lot.
- A plain explanation of how the figure was reached.
- Your items back in the drawer, at no cost, if you decline.
What to have ready
The items unaltered — no cleaning, untangling or repairs — and photographic identification such as a passport or driving licence. Recording the seller's identity is standard practice in the precious metals and second-hand trade.
Identification and records
Reputable buyers record who they bought from and what they bought. Expect to provide ID and to receive a description of the items and the amount. A buyer who asks for nothing is not being convenient; they are being careless.
If you decide not to sell
Nothing happens. You keep your gold and there is no charge for the visit. Gold keeps indefinitely.
